12 Months Of Sustainable Challenges To Try Out With Your Friends

Choosing whether or not to be sustainable is a decision we subconsciously make every single day. Try out these monthly challenges to test yourself and bring awareness to the choices you make regularly!
FEBRUARY: TRY BIKING
While biking may not be a realistic option for your daily work commute, try it whenever you can. This is a great way to get active and help save the earth at the same time!
MARCH: ONLY BUY SECONDHAND CLOTHING
Buying secondhand clothing can be way more fulfilling than purchasing new items. It feels good to know you’re helping reduce waste! This month, try to commit to only purchasing like-new clothing.
APRIL: NO SINGLE USE WATER BOTTLES
We all have a reusable water bottle, but I’m willing to bet you don’t use it every single time. Try it out and see how easy it is. Make sure you have a bottle cleaning brush on hand, this month you’re going to need it!
MAY: SHOP REFILLABLE
This month, try shopping at a refillable store for essentials like deodorant, shampoo, floss, and body wash. You can bring empty bottles in to refill or purchase reusable glassware there. If you’re local to Tampa, we recommend trying Lufka out for your refill needs.
JUNE: NO MORE PLASTIC STRAWS
Many businesses have already taken the leap to no plastic straws, but there are still many that haven’t. For this challenge, purchase a reusable straw with a carrying case so you’re never in a predicament where you have to use one!
JULY: MEAT-FREE MONDAYS
Participating in meat-free Mondays helps lessen the demand for precious environmental resources such as land, water, and energy in addition to helping reduce greenhouse gases.
AUGUST: TOTE TIME
This month, carry a reusable tote with you at all times and use it to carry any purchases you can! We like netted bags because they are easy to scrunch up and throw in your purse!
SEPTEMBER: SHORTER SHOWERS
Challenge yourself this month by cutting at least 5 minutes off of every shower you take! Use your phone’s timer to track how you’re doing.
OCTOBER: SHARE A WEEKLY THRIFTED #OOTD
Share your influence! You never know who may be influenced by your thrifty skills and may want to give secondhand a shot thanks to you!
NOVEMBER: CAN WE FIX?
This month, try to repair before you repurchase! Not everything is fixable, but give it a go before running to the store. This helps reduce waste in a big way.
DECEMBER: SHOP LOCAL
This month, try to patronize local restaurants, farmer’s markets, and boutiques before heading to your local Walmart. Chances are, you will find new local favorites you’ve never even heard of before!
JANUARY: BUY IN BULK
Items like beans, spices, and pasta can easily be purchased in bulk. This reduces the waste associated with unnecessary packaging! Make your eco-friendly decision go even further and bring along mason jars to store your items in, instead of the store provided bags.
Good luck! Tag us on Facebook or Instagram if you complete any challenges and we will feature you.
